Polyonics offers a line of double coated tapes for high temperature, antistatic and static/static dissipative and flame retardant bonding applications. These tapes can be constructed using 1 and 2mil polyimide and polyester films or 2mil aluminum foil combined with a variety of acrylic and silicone adhesives. The adhesives can be different on each surface to best fit the application.

Polyonics double coated tapes are ideal for bonding materials at extreme high temperatures and harsh manufacturing environments. This includes bonding static sensitive devices (SSD) and where the propagation of fire needs to be prevented. The tapes include liners and due to their additional stiffness compared to transfer adhesives, can be easily die-cut and auto-applied.
The double coated REACH and RoHS tapes are resistant to those chemicals typically found in electronics manufacturing and remain dimensionally stable at elevated temperatures. They also include a range of electrical properties, including high dielectric strength, which provides excellent electrical insulation and isolation. A variety of constructions are available that offer exceptional bond strength, continue to function at temperatures up to 500°C and provide a thin, conformal bond line to increase the overall integrity of the joint.
ThermoGard™
All double coated tapes incorporate ThermoGard technology that combines polymers, resins and nano-particles to produce robust high temperature protection, insulation and isolation. This produces a dimensionally stable double-coated tape. Dimensional stability is the key to a tapes ability to continue to provide superior bonding, electrical properties and thermal management at extreme temperatures.

TriboGard™
In addition, the antistatic tapes utilize TriboGard technology to produce low peel voltages (<100v) when the liners are removed prior to bonding parts to substrates (chart below). This helps prevent the generation of electrostatic charges during assembly and a spike in current that could damage the component or device. For temporary applications, where the ESD tapes are used during a portion of the manufacturing process, the tape will again produce a low peel voltage (<100v) when removed from the substrate1 helping to further prevent an ESD event from occurring.
| OPERATION | ESD Tape | Non-ESD Tape |
| Remove liner | <100v | >2500v |
| Remove Tape - Aluminum | <100v | >2500v |
| Remove Tape - PCB | 100v | >2500v |
FlameGard™
The flame retardant double coated tapes also incorporate FlameGard technology to effectively control the burning process (chart below). The tapes include resins and additives that are dimensionally stable plus don’t generate significant amounts of flammable gasses. In addition, the tapes create a char layer that acts as a heat shield slowing the rate of thermal oxidation and reducing thermal degradation to help prevent to the propagation of fire.
