TRIBOGARD® Labels

Thermogard Lables - We take the heat!

Polyonics' TRIBOGARD® pressure sensitive label materials protect printed circuit baord components from static discharge events druing label application and label life.
Static charges (or more correctly "Tribo-electric charges") are generated when the surfaces of two dissimilar objects are moved against each other such as brushing your hair or walking across a carpet. The "ESD Event", or electrical flow, occurs when the extra electrons can flow back to neutralize the positive charge, or become grounded, i.e. such as a doorknob. Electricity is the flow of electrons, measured in volts. A static charge is not "static electricity" until it moves/flows.
Polyonics' unique TRIBOGARD® technology is designed to dissipate the static charge as quickly as possible. We adapted the resistivity of the polyimide label to the extent that any charge generated, no matter how small, dissipates quickly within a few milliseconds. The greatly reduced amount of static charge generated when these labels are removed from their release liners (< 25 volts/ sq. inch) makes them safe enough so they won't damage static sensitive components.

Polyonics label materials listed in this section are considered static dissipative as defined by EIA-625, "Requirements for Handling Electrostatic-Discharge Sensitive (ESDS) Devices and EIA-541, "Packaging Material Standards for ESD Sensitive Items." The test method used was EOS/ESD S11.11, "Surface Resistance Measurement of Static dissipative planes":

According to EIA, the criteria for surface resistivity is:

  • less than 103 ohms is "Conductive"
  • 103> < x < 1011 ohms is "Static dissiapative"
  • greater than 1011 ohms is "Insulative"

Polyonics ESD polyimide labels are designed to meet the extreme challenges of the printed circuit board manufacturing and provide high temperature solutions to all of your application needs. Polyonics ESD polyimides come in a wide range of colors and are available in 1 or 2 mil thickness. Each product is RoHS, REACH & WEEE compliant, thermal transfer printable and exhibit the highest PCS and first read rates. They each exhibit excellent chemical and abrasion resistance and withstand process temperatures up to 550°F (287°C) for the colored ESD labels and up to 1,000°F (538°C) for the white.

Features

  • Virtually eliminates static build up
  • Safe to use on static safe electronics
  • Non-conductive adhesive
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Low minimum order quantity and lead time
  • HALOGEN free- REACH & RoHS compliant

Benefits

  • Eliminates static discharge events
  • Reduce product cost related to static damage
  • Prevents electrical shorts
